Weekend self-care open thread: It's the season for John Lewis adverts
Ever since I started watching television out of the UK many moons ago, I discovered that the start of the holiday season in Britain was heralded by the new Christmas advert from UK retailer John Lewis. And, on TPV and now here, it's been my tradition to start off our festive season with a weekend self-care thread featuring the current year's iteration.
These ads are full of whimsy and melancholy and quiet joy, the kind of joy brought to you not by purchasing the products John Lewis sells, but by being kind and human. It's a pretty bold advertising strategy, but it works, because it doesn't hammer you over the head with BUY BUY BUY.
As we begin the holiday season, may it be filled likewise with whimsy and melancholy and quiet joy.
