WE DID IT: IT'S OFFICIALLY PRESIDENT-ELECT BIDEN, Y'ALL!

That. Just. Happened.

Full disclosure. I'm writing this piece at 9:00 AM where they hasn't been an official call but it is only a matter of time before that call becomes official and I wanted our EB family to have a place to celebrate. Biden now leads in both Pennsylvania and Georgia and those leads will only grow so we at The Bar are calling the race, damnit! We've been through way too many ups and downs over the past four years and there is no group of rag-tag ruffians that I would rather be with on this historic day.

LL and myself will spit out some words of wisdom in the coming days but right now is a time of relief. For your personally. For your friends and families. For the communities you are a part of and that you care about. For the health of our nation. For the world as a whole.

Breathe. We have temporarily defeated American fascism through the power of the vote. When all is said and done between 73 and 74 million of us will have said, simply, ENOUGH. Enough tweeting. Enough racism. Enough sexism. Enough xenophobia. Enough climate denial. Enough profiting off the presidency. Enough nepotism. Enough corruption. Enough insults of the living and the dead. Enough belittling and demonizing the press. Enough COVID rallies. Enough abandoning the job of President of the United States of America.

The moral arc of the universe is long, but it bends toward justice. We have a lot of work left to do. But tonight is your night. It started right after inauguration. Since then you marched, demonstrated, protested, phone banked, text banked, called your elected officials, attended rallies, and even ran for office. You swarmed airports and fought for the legal rights of our Muslim brothers and sisters. You hopped on planes and flew to the epicenters of COVID-19. You formed mutual aid networks that brought food and supplies to your vulnerable friends and neighbors. You posted on social media and you called out your racist family members. None of this was easy, but you did it nonetheless. You did it because you believed in the American ideal. An ideal that includes the type of country where a scrappy kid from Scranton and a biracial woman who's the daughter of immigrants can lead a nation back from the brink of disaster. YOU did this. YOU were the hope that we sought. It's is YOU that deserve this night in celebration.

Go celebrate. YOU all earned it.
