Cucking goeth before the fall

Look.

If Jerry Falwell likes getting cucked and that's his kink, fine. Not my cup of tea, but to each his own, as long as everyone is a consenting adult and no one gets hurt.

Of course, that's not the point, is it?

Falwell, like his execrable father of damned memory, has spent his entire life shaming people and their kinks. There's only one way to have sex, and that's in marriage between a man and a woman. Anything else is anathema and will take you to H-E-Double Hockey Sticks.

No one would care about his kink if he, himself, didn't kink shame on a regular basis. If he didn't hold himself out as an exemplar of white, Christian moral rectitude.

I wouldn't care if the pool boy also serviced Jerry. Except that Jerry has spent a lifetime mired in vile homophobia. That's when a private matter becomes a public concern.

It's a story as old as time. The moral pillars inveigh against that which they do in the darkness. Homophobes spend more time thinking about penis than most gay men do. The San Fernando Valley porn industry would go belly up were it not for the consumption of its product by churchgoers in the Bible Belt.

Our civilization would be much healthier were we all free to admit to and revel in our sexual proclivities, without shame, without condemnation. Jerry Falwell might be less of a shit human being if he didn't feel the fear and shame of hiding his kink. Lindsey Graham might be a decent man if he could march in Gay Pride proudly and openly. The source of our problems as a society are manifold, but sexual shame is a big part of them.

The reason we're all mocking Falwell is not because he's a cuck. It's because he's presented himself as the polar opposite of a cuck in his public life. He's denigrated and condemned anyone who deviates from what he claims is "normal", and it turns out he's playing the game as well. If he and his wife like playing out this fantasy, fine; but then don't come and tell us, in your public life, that anyone who engages in such activity is damned to Hell.

It's the hypocrisy which is so galling. That's one of my pet hatreds. Be in public what you are in private. Or, at least, keep your mouth shut with the shaming when you, yourself, live in a glass house.

The forces of the Universe are aligning against Donald Trump. Steve Bannon has been arrested, and now his conduit to the religious right is in freefall. And last night's convention? Whoo boy. More of this, please.
