Weekend Self-care Open Thread: In memoriam Sergio Mendes

The great Brazilian musician Sergio Mendes passed away two weeks ago.

Mendes is most well-known for bringing the tropical Brazilian sounds of bossa nova to a wider world public. However, he made his name not in Brazil, but in the United States, where he worked and recorded most of his thirty-five albums, mixing bossa nova with pop, funk, and soul.

His death was emblematic of our times: he died of complications from long Covid in Los Angeles.

For this weekend's self-care, we honor a unique artist.

As always, dear friends, be ever kind, gentle, and joyful with yourselves and those around you.
