The fat lady has sung. The goose is cooked. The horse has bolted the barn.

One of the curious things about the six weeks since the general election has been the daily reification of Joe Biden's and Kamala Harris' electoral victory.

Donald Trump and his cohorts have gone to court repeatedly to overturn the results, and have lost every case, except for one minor win. Even Trump's handpicked Supreme Court justices wanted nothing to do with his taint.

Now the Hail Mary pass is "seating" "alternate electors" in states like Nevada and Pennsylvania. The theory is that since you have two slates of electors, the election is "contested", which would throw it to the House. Of course, one slate of electors has been appointed legally, and the alternate slates cast their votes in a food court by the Orange Julius. These are not smart people, and things are spiraling out of control.

Of course, as I wrote yesterday, there's a serious part of this farce: An entire political party is wedded to the destruction of our democratic experiment. Democracy has failed to keep it in power, so democracy must be jettisoned.

However, the sheer ludicrousness of the past six weeks have been something to behold. Never has an American politician debased and humiliated himself as has Donald Trump. One would be wont to surmise that public humiliation is his sexual kink. Rather than, at long last, having some grace and accepting his defeat with maturity, he has thrown a fit which a two-year old would be hard-pressed to rival.

He does have reason to keep fighting, as once January 20, 2021 hits, so does bankruptcy and criminal and civil trials. The implicit immunity afforded by the presidency is his only shield from utter ruination. This is a man who thought he'd parlay a failed presidential run in 2016 into a rebranding; instead, his victory was the most Pyrrhic victory in history. Now all that is left to him is waiting to find out just which card will be pulled, bringing down his teetering house.

Breathe for today. Then get back to work. We haven't achieved paradise yet.
