Weekend self-care open thread: The art of the adagio

"Adagio", in Italian, means "slowly". In Western art music, it is the name of the slow movement of a piece of music, usually a symphony or concerto.

In the adagio of a piece, the composer pulls out all the stops to overwhelm you with beauty. Its slow meter stops you and makes you reflect.

This weekend I'll be sharing some of my favorite adagios.

A couple of notes. 1) The Brahms, technically, isn't an adagio movement. But it's gorgeous, it's slow, so I'll allow it. 2) Of course I was going to include the most famous modern adagio, Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings.

During these dark times, appreciating and imbibing beauty are not only essential, but radical acts of light against the dark.

As always, dear friends, be ever kind, gentle, and joyful with yourselves and those around you.
