Humpday open thread: It wasn't me!
Well, well, well.
House Democrats acquired the infamous "birthday book" presented to dead pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, with missives from his nearest and dearest friends. And, of course, Donald J. Trump's little memento is included in it.
Now, Donny Two Scoops is swearing up and down that it wasn't him, it's not his signature, it's all fakery and forgery. Oddly, no one else included in that book is denying that it's them. Bill Clinton certainly isn't. (His note to Epstein, as our own Rational Left opined, looked like something his secretary dashed off in order to keep a potential donor to the Foundation onside, with no indication of a close connection of any sort.) Only Don-Don is raising a ruckus about "fake news" and "far left Marxist Democrat Trump haters."
Oh, Donnie, the lady doth protest too much.
He could have said, "Yes, that was me, and I'm ashamed of my friendship with Jeffrey Epstein." That's what a normal man would do. But he's just like Prince Andrew, who to the end refused to renounce and denounce his friendship. Actually, it's far worse; his vehement denials, when we all have the evidence of our eyes, simply reeks of desperation to distance himself from a scandal. And, of course, he could never do what I suggested. He has no shame, so he could never say that his friendship with Epstein shamed him. And he's not a better person, so he could never say that he is, in fact, a better person now. That would be to admit that at one point he was a scoundrel and a cad, and that's impossible for him. Joe Don Trump is incapable of owning up to any error.
Now he's saying that he would welcome a handwriting expert to authenticate his signature. Oops.
A handwriting expert has said the signature on a controversial birthday message to paedophile Jeffrey Epstein is "absolutely" US President Donald Trump's.
Graphologist Emma Bache compared the signature with others the president wrote at the time, and told Sky News: "It is very much the signature he had in the 2000s. I can absolutely say it is Donald Trump's."
To be fair and above-board, we have no evidence that Trump partook of his friend's services. One can surmise that he did, but that's not proof. However, Trump's reaction to this entire affair leads a rational person to assume that where there's smoke, there's fire.
He won't release the unredacted Epstein files. And he can't release redacted files which feature solely any possible political enemies, as that would be farcical on its face and indict him even further in public opinion. He has tied himself up in a Gordian knot, and there is no Alexander of Macedon coming to free him.
This alone won't undo him. But it's one more weapon in the arsenal of resistance. And it's one he gave us on a silver platter.
This won't work, Donnie.
