Weekend self-care open thread: We are now the party of FAFO

For decades, Republicans were secure in the (false) confidence that Democrats were weak. They were cowards. They were afraid of confrontation.

What the past week has shown is that their beliefs were mere chimeras. They always were. But it took a galvanizing moment to put paid to that obtuse construction.

The Democratic National Convention this week saw the upending of old pieties.

Democrats are the party of patriotism. They are the party of the flag. They are the party of American values. They are the party of robust internationalism. They are the party of standing up to autocrats and tyrants. They are the party of the working class. They are the party of freedom.

What the Republicans are is the party of big government. The party of intrusive government. The party of kowtowing to foreign dictators. The party of big business interests. The party of despoiling the earth. The party of making women nothing but broodmares, or, in post-menopause, childcare givers.

Democrats are the party of decency, of joy, of the common good. The GOP is the party of hate, animus, and, well, weirdness.

Yesterday, bear-killer Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., ceased his campaign and endorsed Donald Trump. What a sad end to a member of an illustrious Democratic dynasty. That's what Trump does. He corrupts the hearts of men and women, much like Sauron in J.R.R. Tolkien's works. He preys on the weak, and gets them to abandon all humanity.

Kamala Harris is the opposite. Where Trump is "I, I, I," Vice President Harris is "we, we, we". "For the people" is not just a political slogan; it is a policy program. Nothing that Trump does will benefit anyone besides himself and his crony friends. And people are becoming cognizant of that. He offers nothing but the worst of this country. He embodies the worst of this country. He embodies the worst of humanity. 

The turning point was when the Right went after Gus Walz. No, motherfuckers. Not on our watch. You will not abuse this beautiful, wonderful young man. We will protect him and lift him up. Twitter is filled with people finding out after fucking around over Gus. Even that evil skeleton, Ann Coulter, had to delete her evil tweet. That is the difference now. We are not taking any of their shit. We are not afraid of their potential violence. For we have a steely resolve against which they cannot stand. We look at them, as the bullies they are, and say, "Bring it, motherfuckers." Bullies blanch and retreat when faced with strength. They are weak, so they rely on their enemies being weak. When their targets are strong, they run away like the whiny little children they are.
