Girding our loins


We are all on a high, watching how Vice President Kamala Harris, and now her running mate Governor Tim Walz, have blazed a political movement the likes this country hasn't seen in quite a while.

But while we gear up to vote them into office, our beloved outgoing president has words of warning.
Now, let me make myself clear: This is not cause for despondency. This is not cause for hopelessness. Quite the opposite.

We saw what Donald Trump did in 2020 and 2021. And at that point there were no criminal cases pending against him. Now, when he loses this November, he's guaranteed to go to prison on one, several, or all his trials. The only reason he is running now is to avoid that. He's a man who will burn down the house to save his own skin. We can put nothing past him, nor his most fervent followers.

But again: we have the power this time. Any attempts to scupper Kamala's election will be met with the full force of the law. Any attempt to storm the Capitol will be met with the full force of the military. Any attempt to make the streets ungovernable will be met with the full force of law enforcement. And all of this must be backed by us, just ordinary people who will not put up with this bullshit.

The pundits think that Americans are supine and won't rise up to fight fascism. They are so absolutely mistaken. They won't, because they're of a class which would benefit from a second Trump regime. And, if need be, they can abscond overseas. But this is our home. Here is where we stand. Here is where we fight. And here is where we triumph. 

When the history of these times is written, the Very Serious People will be cast into ignominy. Anathema will be judged upon them. They consider themselves champions of democracy, but they are anything but. They are mere pettifoggers, preening careerists, milquetoast sycophants. They are panegyrists to power. We will not let them set our course. We will  not let Trump's troglodytes determine our future. We have the wind at our backs. This country will have a refashioning the likes of which haven't been seen since the New Deal. President Biden is correct to warn us that the job will not be done on November 5th. Liberty requires eternal vigilance. And we must be especially vigilant after Trump is disposed of politically. He won't go quietly. He will try to rile up his goons to topple this Republic.

And that is a fool's quest. Remember: they didn't show up for him in Manhattan. His rally crowds dwindle by the event. He and his "movement" are spent forces. Yes, there will be attacks. But most of his followers won't go up against the full force of this Republic. And if they're tempted to? Then the example made of those who rush headlong into the furnace will be of a salutary nature.

Ninety days. Tick tock, motherfuckers. Your time is at an end.
