The Wonderful Tim of Walz

My governor, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, is running as Vice President Harris’s vice presidential nominee.

At first, I was quite nervous because I was hoping for Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro in order to lock down the Keystone State.

But once I learned more about the decision-making process, I fully agree with her choice.

Neither the war against Hamas and the devastation with Gaza nor Governor Shapiro’s faith as a Jew played a role in how she selected her VP.

It had more to do with how well she thought the candidates in questions would serve as vice president.

As excellent of a governor and leader that Governor Shapiro is, it sounds like he would have a lot of trouble serving as a number two. That is not necessarily a knock against him; all it means is that he was not a good fit to be VP.

Regardless of what happens in Gaza.

Record as Governor

Governor Walz has been my governor for six years now.

His record has been a solid one, especially dealing with some quite tough challenges.

Under his leadership, Minnesota was one of the least hard hit states by COVID-19, though the Twin Cities still suffered greatly.

Regarding his response to George Floyd’s murder and the subsequent unrest, he stepped in when the Minneapolis city government at all levels fell apart. He was not helped by a police department determined to make a bad situation worse.

Click here, here, and here for a recap on what happened after George Floyd’s murder.

Side note: if anyone wants a scapegoat for what happened after George Floyd’s murder, they can blame the Minneapolis city government for having the uncanny ability to make every wrong decision, Hennepin County Attorney Michael Freeman for careless remarks indicating he might not charge Chauvin, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for poor communication with the governor’s office.

Governor Walz saved the Twin Cities from further devastation when he sent in the Minnesota National Guard.

None other than Donald Trump himself praised how Governor Walz stopped the riots in 2020.

This is not to mention that my governor worked to ensure that Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison was the one working on the case to hold Chauvin accountable for his atrocities.

When Governor Walz was not putting out fires caused by systemic racism and a rancid police department in Minneapolis, he was doing so much more.

For example, when the DFL won a trifecta in the 2022 midterms (much to my surprise), Governor Walz and the DFL legislature wasted no time on codifying abortion rights (at lightning pace, I might add), making long overdue investments in education and infrastructure, legalizing cannabis, working to make school lunches universal, and doing so much more.

Governor Walz has an excellent record on his own and is outstanding as a vice presidential nominee, but there is one more factor that should make us all rest easy.

Who takes over as governor.

Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan

Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan is more than ready to take over as governor.

Not only has she played vital roles in all of Governor Walz’s accomplishments, but she also has a wealth of experience as a state legislator representing part of the western Minneapolis suburbs, specifically Saint Louis Park.

We can also credit her with the creation of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives Office here in Minnesota, both an urgent issue itself and a shameful legacy of genocide and oppression.

However, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan would also be making history as the first female Native American governor in the country.

My lieutenant governor is a member of the White Earth Band of the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe, more commonly known as the White Earth Nation, and is of Ojibwe descent. Her family is the Wolf Clan. Her family’s role is to be the protectors of the community and ensure no one is left behind.

I am more than eager to have her as my next governor.

Now let’s follow the yellow brick road to victory and the end of Trumpism.

I don’t know about you, but I am off to meet the Tim, the wonderful Tim of Walz.
