Weekend self-care open thread: Joe Strummer
There were two bands which defined British punk rock: The Sex Pistols, and The Clash.
I'm not here to talk trash about the Pistols. Mostly because I don't care much about them. For me, The Clash was the seminal British punk band. And that's because as a band it went so far beyond the strictures of punk. Very soon the band was no longer constrained by the punk aesthetic, and explored other realms of sounds and textures.
And, for me, the center of the band was Joe Strummer. He was as important an artist as the likes of John Lennon and Pete Townshend. Both with The Clash and as a solo artist, he created music of depth and passion. His early death proved once again that we don't live in a fair world.
For this weekend's self-care, we'll dive into his work.
Art in all its forms—literature, music, painting—is what makes life worth living. And Joe led a good life.
As always dear friends, be ever kind to yourselves and those around you.
