Monday open thread: Bring it

Well, we know that Donald Trump is facing the sum of all fears. How? By this statement from his lickspittle:

And then you have the man himself:

Of course, others have promised rioting in the streets if Trump is indicted and arrested. And you know what I say? Bring it on.

Fascists aren't on the winning side in history's wars. They lost in 1865. And they lost in 1945. And they'll lose again.

Now, let me be clear: I don't think there will be rioting in the streets. As we saw after the FBI raid, we had two incidents of violence, which were basically suicide-by-cop. And the police responded to protect the state. The fact of the matter is that the Republic and its ideals are far stronger than those who wish to destroy it in furtherance of perpetuating their power. We see that in polling, where most voters support the investigation being carried out by the FBI.

But if there's to be a violent backlash because a feckless game show host is about to be tried and imprisoned for sedition, then so be it. The weekend people's militia will find out that their arsenal of AR-15s are really not enough to overthrow the government. And they will find this out in the most terminal way.

They think that those of us who stand for justice and the Republic will cave in to their violent threats. But we won't. In general, I wish no man or woman ill. But if they want to destroy me and my own, then let the chips fall where they may. They live in a bubble where they think they are the majority of opinion. But they're not. Even the student loan jubilee has popular support, when they and their handmaidens in the media were salivating that this would be the issue which would drive abortion off the front pages.

We are way past the point of trivialities distracting from the peril in which this nation finds itself. A holder of the presidency may very well have been a traitor. His followers are braying about revolution. Such things clarify the mind. If they wish to riot, let them; they will consider their life choices once a phalanx of National Guard troops confronts them.

What we can't do as a free people is give in to terroristic threats. And that's what these are. Just as we don't negotiate with foreign terrorists, we likewise don't negotiate with the domestic variety. The fates of Ayman al-Zawahiri and Usama bin Laden should be signal lessons to those who wish to raise the banner of insurrection. It's way past time that we finally bring the Civil War to its rightful conclusion, a conclusion we didn't reach in 1865.

I am in no way afraid of these people. Fascists have only bullying behind them. When confronted, they melt away. These fascists must be confronted, and named for what they are. Joe Biden calling them such was a salutary shot across the bow. We know what they are, and the president knows as well. The howling from the right is evidence that the words struck home. If they want war, they will find that their chalice is poisoned, and they will meet the fate of previous enemies of this nation.
