Did music come first, or the word? Of course, I love both. But I'd like to think that stories around the fire pipped flutes for the first entertainment which human beings enjoyed.

This weekend we celebrate the life and work of the seminal American playwright, August Wilson, taken too soon from us.

His plays illuminated the Black experience in America. Now, Denzel Washington has a commitment with Netflix to produce films of all of his theater works for the streaming service. Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, with Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman, is the first effort in this project.

August Wilson is a reminder that Black History Month isn't February. It's January, and March, and April, and the rest of the year. Black history is American history.

As always, be bold, be beautiful, and be good.
