Open thread: Impeachment trial, day the last?

Re-Impeach Trump, by FolsomNatural, CC BY SA 2.0

Well well well.

Before last night, the betting was that the House managers would sum up their case today and the Senate would move on to a vote. Then, of course, all hell broke loose.
  1. CNN broke a story with gory details of the call between House GOP leader Keven McCarthy and Donald Trump, where Trump allegedly told a panicked McCarthy about the insurgents: "Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are."
  2. Tommy Tuberville again repeated his story that he told Trump that the Secret Service had removed Vice President Mike Pence.
  3. Reporters tweeted out that a few Republican senators were mulling voting to convict Trump.
  4. And Mike Pence's camp leaked that Trump's lawyers were lying vis a vis the events of January 6th and as it related to his safety.
Now, House managers are mulling calling witnesses. The only way yesterday could have gone worse for Trump was if he had been testifying himself.

I would be silly to say what all this means. But things are moving, and not in the direction which Trump and his partisans want. As I tweeted last night:
Hubris was the greatest sin in the ancient world, punished mercilessly by the gods. Trump's hubris was going to get him in the end. We may be seeing it unfold today.

Strap in, kids. Today's going to be interesting.
