Wednesday open thread: The Court is on the ballot
Word came to us yesterday that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is again in the hospital, this time with a gall bladder issue. A statement from her office says this is a minor procedure, and she will participate in today's court deliberations via video conference.
However, this again brings into stark relief of how fragile the wall defending us against outright autocracy is. We're relying on Justice Ginsburg and Justice Stephen Breyer to make it to a Biden Administration so that they can retire and be replaced by Democratic appointees.
Of course, the loony left is again braying about not threatening them with the courts. But the past three years have been Mitch McConnell's wet dream, as he's been able to refashion the courts in his image. This is one of the major consequences of the Disaster of 2016. So when someone says "Don't threaten me with the courts", treat them with the derision they deserve. They have no knowledge about how anything works, thinking that winning the presidency is all that matters, and everything else is ancillary.
Be and stay well, Justice Ginsburg.
