Monday open thread: What are Coulter and Wallace playing at?

If you woke up yesterday and thought you'd gone into that parallel universe NASA may or may not have found, you'd be forgiven for thinking so.

On his Sunday "news" show, Fox's Chris Wallace tore apart the Trumpian meme that voting by mail was rife with fraud.

At the same time, the utterly evil Ann Coulter had this to say:
Now, no. I don't think that Jesus spoke out of the clouds to Coulter and she's now on the side of right. (In the same tirade, she used the "R" word. So, she's still an awful wretch.) And while Wallace has been known to not tow the line—so much so that Trump whines about it—he's still on the network which is nothing but a propaganda arm for the GOP. However, their irruptions are a bit telling.

Although we can't know exactly what's going on, these two operators aren't stupid. Coulter is rich from selling her awfully-written tomes to people who read at a 5th grade level. And Wallace is such a fixture at Fox News that he's basically untouchable. (Unlike the late, unlamented Roger Ailes, no hint of sexual impropriety has ever attached itself to him.) So why the whacking?

This is nothing other than two cagey operators finally realizing that the Trump gravy train is about to crash in the most deleterious fashion. More likely than not, not only is Joe Biden about to head to a clear victory over Trump, but Nancy Pelosi will keep the Speaker's gavel, and it's better than even odds that Chuck Schumer will be Majority Leader in the Senate come Jan. 4, 2021. The GOP will be holding only the Supreme Court come next year, and even that won't last long, as President Joe Biden will move to replace Justices Ginsburg and Breyer after their sacrifices during this regime, and will probably replace a crestfallen Clarence Thomas, delivering a liberal majority to SCOTUS again. They're positioning themselves to pick up the pieces after the Great Crash. And, of course, speaking of Great Crash, the economy will still be mired in the doldrums next year, especially if we have a second wave of COVID-19. No one with any sense will want to be anywhere near the stench of Trumpism, as the non-crazy 60-65% pick up the pieces and deal with the dead-enders.

What awaits people who refuse to disavow Trump? Yesterday in London, and the reception prime minister Boris Johnson's Svengali received should give them a clue:
There are many reasons to be forlorn. We are facing 100,000 dead from coronavirus by Tuesday. But these are exactly the reasons to push on and persevere. Rectifying things isn't going to be easy. But what other choice do we have?

Happy Monday, everyone. On this Memorial Day, recommit to upholding and striving for the values for which people have died. The fight goes on.
