Are you a mod? Are you a rocker?

In 1964 England, that was as loaded question as "Where you from" was in 1980s Los Angeles.

The Rockers looked like extras in a rockabilly movie. The Mods were all Italian suits and Italian Vespas. And they hated each other.

The Who, one of the seminal bands to come out of the British Invasion, was, for a while, the voice of the Mods. From their music to their fashion, they spoke for a generation finding its voice. (Soon, they too grew up, and grew out. For a wonderful exploration of mod culture, you could do worse than watch the movie based on The Who's rock opera, Quadrophenia.)

For this weekend's self-care, a little of the Who's music from that formative era.









So put on your rain slickers, get on your Vespas, and ride this weekend.
