SCIF to my loo my darling

The face of DURRR
This is just becoming bad performance art.

Republican congressmember Matt Gaetz, who loves his booze more than even this writer does, barged into the secure room in which the impeachment committees are taking depositions. His reason? Well, his stated reason was that the impeachment inquiry was nothing but a Star Chamber (OK, I threw that in there, as I doubt Gaetz knows what the Star Chamber was), and that the GOP was being barred from participating.

Of course, this is ludicrous. The GOP is represented on the committees as the minority party. What Gaetz and Keystone Kops are really upset about is that they aren't being allowed to muck up the proceedings. Of course, Democrats are operating under the rules enacted by the previous GOP Congress, so they have only themselves to blame.

One would have at least given Matt an "attaboy" for being an asshole on his own. But no. This just broke:
Trump had advance knowledge and supported a protest by Republicans who told him they planned to barge into a secure hearing room on Capitol Hill where Democrats are holding impeachment testimonies, according to four people familiar with the matter.
Trump on Tuesday met with about 30 House Republicans at the White House to talk about the situation in Syria and the impeachment inquiry. During a nearly two-hour meeting, which focused mostly on the impeachment inquiry, lawmakers shared their plans to storm into the secure room, the people said. Trump supported the action, saying he wanted the transcripts released because they will exonerate him, the people said.
That's right. The King of Morons told his little moron minions to go ahead and stage their moron stunt. Add this as an article of impeachment.

That's what happens when 22% of the electorate is so suffused in animus, grievance, and conspiracy, that it elects people who mirror their world view.  Gaetz and Louie Gohmert aren't aberrations. They're the apotheosis of the voters they represent. They are the culmination of HL Mencken's droll aphorism. They're idiots elected by idiots, because the electorate admires the idiocy they embody.

Now, the law & order guy in me wants Adam Schiff to send in SWAT and haul them off to the hoosegow. But it's much better—and certainly funnier—to just let them stew in the SCIF. They might be leaving soon, anyway: they're hungry, and trying to order pizza to be delivered to them. Thus do insurrections die.

UPDATE: The petulant children have left the SCIF, as of 3pm EDT.

If someone can explain to me what they accomplished, I'd be mighty grateful.

Some have compared it to the Brooks Brothers riot at the Florida recount in 2000. However, that thuggish action had actual consequences. And Republicans were better at that sort of stuff back then. This has just been a farcical stunt which makes the GOP look even more deranged in the eyes of non-cultists.

I for one won't be cowed by my inferiors. And I look forward to at least a few of them being brought up on charges once the Department of Justice is back in Democratic hands.
