Weekend self-care open thread: Ladies and gentlemen, P!nk!
When the whole Macklemore mishegoss erupted, P!nk—née Alecia Beth Moore—posted on her Instagram account an impassioned plea to stop antisemitism. Why? Because she's Jewish.
Well, the howls of condemnation came fast and hard. To the point where Hamas-loving Spanish actor—wow, there's a stretch—Javier Bardem has called for her to be stripped of her UNICEF ambassador role.
Well, you know how we roll with vile and disgusting antisemites on this blog. (No Dune for me. And considering my disdain for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings, I'm sure that's for the best.) This weekend we shall celebrate this tzaddik who is going against the tide of fashionable Jew-hate in the entertainment "industry". Jewish and Israeli artists have faced increasing boycotts and threats to their artistic lives, simply for who they are, and because the world has valorized the Palestinian cause above all over tragedies. I, for one, will not let this go uncontested.
Of course, as a man of a certain age, P!nk was part of my soundtrack in my clubbing days. So no, this isn't some virtue signaling on my part. That ain't my jam. Her music slaps. Do join in with your own favorites.
As always, my dearest friends, be ever kind, gentle, and joyful to yourselves and those around you.
And fuck Jew-hate.
