Tuesday Open Thread: Putting In The Work

Let's check on the state of the 2024 election, shall we?

From Pennsylvania:

From Nevada:

From New Hampshire:

 From Michigan:

From Wisconsin:

From Georgia:

And from North Carolina and Arizona:

As a campaign veteran, these numbers make me giddy.

Because it shows that Democrats are putting in the work and are taking nothing for granted. Conversely, it shows Republicans in complete and utter disarray as Donald Trump is (predictably) using his joint RNC account to pay off his legal bills rather than set up field offices in the 8 key battleground states. While Trumpers are trying to draw parallels between 2016 and 2024, the truth is that Trump's abysmal ground game caught up to him in 2020 and will continue to do so this year. Trump's voting bloc is shrinking rather than growing. The party of puppy murderers has maxed out its supporters, especially in battleground states. While 2016 showed us all that there were hidden Trump supporters, 2020 showed us that there were simply more of us than there were of them. If these early 2024 numbers are any indication, Democrats should be optimistic going into the general election about not only their chances of holding the White House and Senate but flipping the House as well. Starting early is critical, especially knowing how unpredictable the final 6 months of a presidential campaign can be.

Yes, we all wish that we could rely on the American voters to do the right thing. But the hard thing is never the easiest. Those who should be Democratic voters have been intentionally left out of the political process due to a century-plus of conservative politicians convincing them that their vote and their voice don't matter. Democrats have to gut it out and really get into these historically underrepresented communities to make their case. They have to hit up college campuses and convince hundreds of thousands of 18-year-olds that voting is critically important. They have to manage the Horseshoe Left, a small but very vocal contingent on social media that loves to bash the Democratic Party no matter what they do. And they have to do all this with a fifth-column fourth estate, hellbent on downplaying Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' accomplishments while simultaneously normalizing the sheer lunacy represented by Donald Trump and today's Republican Party.

It's nearly May. The general election is just over six months away. It's not how you start but how you finish. But Democrats today are in a much stronger position with the field office numbers demonstrating that. Combine these numbers with the record-breaking fundraising totals of the Biden-Harris campaign and the understanding that this money will be used to help support down-ballot Democrats and not line Joe Biden's own pockets and you get a sense for how Democrats are starting from a position of strength as we head into the summer months. Meanwhile, Donald Trump is tied up in court and remains low-energy on the campaign trail. While his rallies might give him a temporary boost of adrenaline, they do nothing to expand his voting base as nobody in their right mind attends a Trump rally as an undecided voter. In fact, those who do attend often come from out of state and are simply his MAGA groupies at this point. While Donald Trump is making the 2024 campaign all about him, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are working across the 8 battleground states, setting up campaign offices, training staff, and making the voter contacts needed to win re-election.

I couldn't have said it better myself, Mr. President.
