Loser: Anecdotal evidence that the vibecession is ending

Let's call my friend "M".

M was rather down for most of last year. He put too much stock in polling which showed twice-impeached, four-times indicted, sexual abuser Donald Trump either leading or within striking distance of Diamond Joe Biden.

"I'm afraid that President Biden is in trouble. I think Trump can beat him."

My work with him was to be his sherpa. He, at one point, also thought Trump would face no legal consequences for his multifarious crimes.

"Remember when you said he'd never be indicted? And what did I tell you?"

As our own Cletus, among others, says: many of our political peers are still mired in 2016 PTSD. Trump's improbable so-called "victory" that year has made people on our side of the aisle ascribe superhuman political attributes to him. He can never be defeated; he will always get away with his malfeasance; he is an unstoppable force destined to destroy our democracy.

But, today, I had a conversation with M, and things are, well, different.

Me: Have you seen the picture of him going around? Makeup caked on, sweating, looking like he's about to die?

M: Oh, yes. He looks awful.

Me: And I know you said he's not got dementia, but I'm sorry, he does.

M: Most definitely.

This is anecdotal evidence from one person. But the spell he had cast on him by Trump broke. And he came to this awakening by just absorbing all that has happened in the past couple of months.

And, I'm convinced, nothing has been as impactful as the E. Jean Carroll trial.

The first trial established that he sexually abused her. That he raped her. But the monetary award from that trial wasn't earth-shattering. It was easily swept under the rug.

However, Trump being the genius he is, wanted a retrial. And his crack legal team turned a $5 million award into $83.3 million. And if Trump wants to appeal, he will have to pony up that amount to hold in bond as his appeal works its way through the courts. We all know it's $83.3 million which he doesn't have, and which he'll con off of his MAGA sycophants.

Something else which M told me today.

"Nikki Haley might have been able to beat Biden. But Biden is going to wipe the floor with Trump."

Which brings us to this statement by E. Jean:
A phantom.

Trump has never had any substance. He's a wraith. He has only the power we gave him, the power which we ascribed to him. But, like a wraith, he's nothing. He's a wisp, a creature of the dark, who, when exposed to the light, gives up a wail and vanishes.

I've written one or two posts around the Blue Oyster Cult's song "Don't Fear the Reaper," urging you to not fear Trump. And this is why. He's a nonentity, used by others to further their own aims. Yes, he has devoted followers. But, as we have seen in the January 6th prosecutions, he cares nothing for them. Or, as we saw last week when he booted one of his loyal MAGAts from the victory party in New Hampshire for outing that his lawyer was not sick, but in attendance, loyalty goes only one way. You can and will be cast off for the slightest infraction. It is the way of all fascist movements. And the one thing fascists don't like is to be disposed of as if they're nothing. Yes, most of them will continue to drink his Kool Aid. But enough will see that they are worthless to him, and that will have an impact on anyone still making up their mind.

At the end of the day, Trump is a loser. He lost to Hillary Clinton in 2016. He lost to Joe Biden in 2020. And now he's about to lose to "Dementia Joe" again, and even worse. The economy is roaring. Wall Street is going on all cylinders. Consumer confidence is sky high. And Trump is a demented, ludicrous fool.

So, as I always say: Strap in, kids. We have a world to save.
