Monday open thread: I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger!

Well, this is going to be a busy week. And I don't mean just because I'm heading back to my home library to take up my normal and customary duties. (Boy, it'll be so nice to have my own cubicle again. Ah. Privacy.)

On Friday, after twice-impeached, thrice-indicted, former president Donald Trump issued a threatening post on his pathetic social media site, special counsel Jack Smith filed a motion with trial judge Tanya Chutkan to issue a protective order against Trump from discussing or commenting on anything which the government hands over in discovery. AND THEN, Trump, for good measure, went ahead and made veiled threats against his one-time lapdog, Mike Pence.

Trump's lawyers filed for an extension. Because they needed more time to respond to a five-page motion. Judge Chutkan laughed and denied the request. So, by 5pm EDT today, Trump has to file a response, after which Judge Chutkan will rule.

My prediction? Not only will the judge grant the government's motion, but she will also place a gag order on Trump to not discuss any aspect of the case in any venue. Not on Truth Social. Not in interviews. Not in his campaign rallies.

Of course, Trump will be incapable of following this order. At that point, the only remedy is obvious: pre-trial detention.

Imagine that. A former president cooling his heels in prison before his trial. What a world we live in. And I doubt he'll be allowed a Rudolph Hess to take down his mad ramblings from confinement.

But wait, there's more!

Today may be the day that Fulton County DA Fani Willis drops her bomb on Trump and indicts him for trying to fabricate votes in Georgia and swing it from Joe Biden to himself. DA Willis will be charging him under the RICO statutes. That's right: she'll be charging him as a common mobster. If that happens today, my brother from another mother Trevor has another post ready to go.

After former president Barack Obama roasted Trump at the White House Correspondent's Dinner—while American soldiers were bringing justice to Osama bin Laden, natch—Trump's ego could not let him slough off the joke. He had to get vengeance. Well, vengeance is a two-way street, and now it's being meted to him for his gross abuse of this Republic. He will endure as a signal lesson to those who wish to exalt themselves to dictatorial rule over this commonwealth. His usual tricks no longer work; justice will come down upon him. Oh, glorious days!

Hang on tight, kids. The fun's just starting.
