Tuesday open thread: How to Help the People of Jackson Mississippi
Right now, the mostly Black residents of Jackson, Mississippi, have no access to clean drinking water thanks to infrastructure failures that left the nearby water treatment plant vulnerable to a severe storm.
This says a lot about how Black Americans are often ignored or even treated as an obstacle when it comes to infrastructure. More on that for another piece on racism in general.
But right now, the people of Jackson need help.
I will link some organizations below that are providing urgently needed aid in the form of water, food, medicine, money, and other vitally needed supplies. Some of these organizations are providing services like showers and working on long-term solutions to this problem:
Let’s send them some help.
