Reclaiming America
We are in a parlous state.
That's not a surprising statement for these our latter days.
However, I want to post a couple of tweets which give me hope for decency.
We've seen scads of videos of racist white people getting up in the faces of Black people and other people of color just for breathing. But I think this is the first time I've seen their fellow white people castigate them for their racism. And the crowd which then marched on Susan's house? *Chef's kiss*
As Joe Biden says, we're in a fight for the soul of who we are as a people. Are we like Susan from Montclair? Or are we like the protesters who descended on her house?
Note that Susan from Montclair was accosting two professionals as if they were miscreants. There's an old joke: "What do you call a Black doctor? A n***er." While I'm sure Susan would never stoop to using the N-word, you can for sure know that's what she was thinking.
On November 3rd, we have a choice. Do we choose decency and humanity? Or do we choose animus and evil?
The polls seem to be pointing to the former. But that, of course, is no reason to get complacent. However, it is reason to forge on with confidence.
I'm so tired of people who say JOE BIDEN'S LEAD IS TOO BIG!!! These are people who would have been rooting for the D-Day landings to fail.
If Joe's lead is big, it's because the country has had enough. It's had enough of racism. It's had enough of injustice. It's had enough of giving corporations billions and ordinary people a pittance. It's had enough of a system which is stacked against it.
The Rose Brigade derides Biden as just another centrist. They're fools. Joe has the most progressive platform in this country's history. These schmucks can either join in, or be swept away as the irrelevancies they are.
And the Brownshirts are fulminating that a Democratic victory will bring out death squads to hunt down conservatives. As always, this is projection. We won't kill you. We'll save you with healthcare, and an economy which works for everyone, and environmental policies which will alleviate the extremes of climate change so that you don't have to move 100 miles in from the coasts.
We will reclaim this country. And we will work, as the Jewish mystics wrote, to recover the pieces of God's Glory scattered over the earth, building a truly just society.
This will be the work of our generation. My generation has been waiting for a task which uses its talents. We will have it in abundance for the next decades. And the country, and the world, will be a better, more human place for it.

🚨 Susan in Montclair, NJ spends 30 minutes harassing two black lawyers because she wants to know if they have a permit for their new stone patio.— chris evans (@notcapnamerica) July 1, 2020
Then lies and says the husband attacked her. But the rest of the white women on the street congregate to drag her unwashed ass. pic.twitter.com/7SKTFOWll5
I can't express how much this warmed my heart.A few hours later the word spread about this incident via local FB groups and this was Susan’s street. 😳pic.twitter.com/qEDTlebLGp— chris evans (@notcapnamerica) July 1, 2020
