Friday Funsies: The World of Hamilton
Don't throw away your shot!
For your casual Friday thread today, I offer video clips from the blockbuster musical, Hamilton, which has recently become available for all to see on Disney Plus. Inspired by a biography of founding father Alexander Hamilton, the brilliant and awe-inspiring playwright/actor/deity Lin-Manuel Miranda went to work on creating a hip-hop opera, one unlike anything the modern world had ever seen. Using an uber-talented cast of people of color (with the exception of the delightful Jonathan Groff as King George), Miranda was able to parlay seven years of writing into a play that debuted on Broadway in January of 2015. The play became an instant hit, winning 11 Tony Awards and spawning 3 U.S. tours as well as permanent showings in New York City, Chicago, and London. The July release of the musical has once again reignited America's love for the story of the "ten-dollar founding father," introducing the play to a worldwide audience that might not have been exposed to the play in the traditional theater setting.
Below are some clips from the hit Hamilton musical. As someone who dabbles in the occasional live theatre performance, I can honestly say this is my favorite musical and it's not even close. The acting, the singing, the stage setup is designed to blow you away. We may never again see the collective talent we see on the stage at a single time so we all need to embrace Hamilton while we can. I know that I personally caved to purchase Disney Plus for the $7 monthly fee and I've already watched the musical three times with more viewings to come. If you like a good story, if you like good acting, if you like good music, or if you just like some plain old eye-candy then this musical is for you! So sit, back, relax, and enjoy the life and times of Alexander Hamilton.
Unless you hate America...
