Weekend self-care open thread: Black British musicians of the 1970s
As anyone who is a regular reader of this here joint knows, oftentimes our weekend self-care posts are given over to Black music.
But Friday, while watching BBC Two, I realized something: I've never featured Black British artists.
Of course, modern artists like RAYE, Olivia Dean, and Stormzy are internationally known. But Black music in the UK has a much longer pedigree, kick-started by the mass migration postwar migration to Britain to help the country rebuild.
This weekend we'll celebrate some of the great Black British artists from the 1970s. The fashion may have been atrocious, but the music was grand.
