Will You Vote?
Will you vote for justice?
Will you vote for your neighbor?
Will you vote for immigrants? Refugees? TPS holders?
Will you vote for the Jewish community?
Will you vote to conserve nature? Art? Music?
Will you vote to honor our history, no matter how painful it might be?
Will you vote for scientists? For scientific research? For lowering barriers to allow international students to study here?
Will you vote for competency? To appoint elected officials to positions for which they are qualified? To understand the role of government and how it can be used as a force of good in everyday people's lives?
Will you vote for Ukraine? For Taiwan? For Sudan? Will you vote with an understanding that an America First equals an America Last?
Or will you vote only for yourself?
Because there is no other choice in November. You're either for America or against it. You can pretend you're a single-issue voter or that both parties are equally evil or that you don't vote because you don't believe your vote matters. But that in itself is an act against America. It's an act against those who are on the front lines, fending off 21st-century American fascism. It's an act against an entire political party working to right the wrongs of this current administration. Only one party fights for what you believe, and only one party is working to make your vision a reality. Unless you are a rich, White man, your life will be significantly worse off in the next two years with the Republican Party in charge of all three branches of government. If you want life to improve in any way, there is only one option this November.
This is not a lesser-of-two-evils thing. Anyone who tells you that is brainwashed by bots and trolls. There is yet another chance for America to do the right thing. We got it right in 2018 and 2020. We got it wrong in 2016, 2022, and 2024. If you were feeling significantly less strain emotionally four years ago, that's because Democrats were in charge of the White House, House, and Senate. There was no clusterfuck in Iran. They had just passed the Inflation Reduction Act, legislation aimed at actually tackling the problem of inflation. The American economy was recovering better than any industrialized nation. All this was happening because Democrats were in control. And not a single Republican was voting with Democrats to make these improvements happen.
30 days.
The least, least you can do is vote straight Democrat up and down the ballot. You can also donate to those in swing House districts. Or those fighting to have Democrats regain control of the United States Senate. Donald Trump deserves to be a lame duck. But that only happens if the 6 million Biden-not-Kamala voters get their shit together. That only happens if some of the 89 million Americans who sat out 2024 finally realize that voting impacts their life and the lives of those they care about. And while the media is now fixated on the Disgruntled Trump Voter, there is zero evidence that any of them will go through with their threat and vote Democrat in November. Leaving a ballot blank is a cop-out, and a net loss of a single vote is much less effective than having switched your vote entirely. Republicans know this, and this is why the phantom Trump-turned-Democratic voter is a nonstarter come November.
If you pay attention, you know who you're voting for next month. If you're still confused, you're choosing ignorance. There's only so much we can do for people like that. But after everything that has happened, if you still don't understand the cause and effect of having Republicans in control of government, then you're a lost cause. We're in the mess we're in today because of GOP incompetence. They've had 18 months to pass whatever they wanted, and they passed tax breaks for millionaires. That's it. No relief for farmers, gas, or the price of eggs. No rebate checks as promised. No border wall. Still. Everything, everything is more expensive. Republicans made this happen. Republicans own this. And Republicans need to own a fucking blue tsunami in November to let them know that some of us who had our heads in the sand for the past decade are finally paying attention.
You'd better finally wake up now before it's too late.
