Tuesday open thread: Cheesehead Primary Day

If nothing else, Wisconsin is a beautiful state.

But first, a little number.
Look. I have no problem with politicians showing joy. In fact, that was a main selling point for Kamala Harris in 2024. But how odd is it that when she ran a campaign of joy she was pilloried as not being serious—SHE CACKLES!!—while afterwards candidates like Francesca Hong and Zohran Mamdani are being lauded for their joyful campaigns. Yes, campaigns should be joyous. The liberal-left should show that there's more to life than rage and animus. But only some people can show that joy. If the person is not approved by the Congress of Soviets, then that joy is illegitimate and not genuine, and must be mercilessly mocked as "not meeting the moment". It is, as always, the hypocrisy that riles me. When Vice President Harris was joyful, it was suspect. Ms. Hong? "Oh, she's cute as a button. Suck it, Zio libtard!" (An actual response to this tweet.)

That's the problem with the left. It weaponizes everything against its enemies further to the center. Only they can be joyful, because only they have a reason to be joyful, as they peer through the scrim of reality to reveal things As They Are. If anyone who is not them is joyful, they are merely play-acting, ignoring the grim and awful reality they have helped create, and should campaign wearing sackcloth with ashes in their hair, hoping that the right people will forgive their past transgressions and allow them the privilege of receiving their votes.

Anyway, as I've been saying, the environment may be so toxic that even people like Hong and Abdul el-Sayed can't fuck this up. But then again, they may once more be defeated in their aspirations of leftist revolution. Personally speaking, I'd rather have them than their GOP opponents. And I would probably choke down my bile and vote for them. I guess we'll see just how this plays out.
