True crime Friday: Jasmine Richardson, The Family Annihilator Killer


Jasmine Richardson was 12 years old when she became a family annihilator. With the assistance of her then 23 year old boyfriend Jeremy Steinke, they murdered her parents and her baby brother. Richardson and Steinke were each convicted on three counts of first-degree murder. Jasmine is the youngest person in Canada to ever be convicted of multiple first-degree murder counts. Jasmine’s 10-year sentence was completed on May 6, 2016.

What are Family Annihilators?

The majority of family annihilators are men. Domestic Violence plays a major role in family annihilations. A history of domestic violence is common amongst "intimate-partner violence" Most domestic violence allegations do appeared in police arrest records even though they are often underreported.

Domestic Violence is a risk factor for most women and children with annihilators before the actual event of annihilations happens. Per medical professionals, these killers considered themselves to be ″civil/reputable″ or ″respectable people” who fell from grace. Some will have a history of domestic violence and some will not even have a police record. Some other common traits are such killers tend to be white males, have access to a gun, a stepchild at home, or are dealing with estrangement. Past criminal history cannot be considered as a consistent indicator because most annihilators do not have a criminal history.

Jasmine Richardson Early Childhood

Since Jasmine was a child at the time of the slayings I could not find anything beyond her 11 years. She obviously has some mental issues in order to commit such as crime. It was said that before Jasmine met Jeremy, she was described as a happy and sociable young girl. Her attitude and demeanor changed once Richardson began seeing Steinke, who was eleven years older. Jasmine Richardson and Jeremy Steinke met at a punk rock show. Richardson was instantly taken with the Goth lifestyle that Jeremy led even becoming a member on the website VampireFreaks.com and would wear dark makeup to make herself look older.

Jasmine’s parents grounded her for dating Steinke because of their ages. So this action led to their deaths. Steinke claimed to be a 300-year-old werewolf. It has been reported that he liked the taste of blood. He also wore a small vial of blood around his neck. Richardson's falsely said she was 15 on several online sites. The two killers were fans of the movie Natural Born Killers.

Lady Justice

Jasmine Richardson was sentenced to the maximum allowed under law for someone her age, 10 years imprisonment on November 8, 2007. Her sentence included credit for eighteen months already spent in custody, to be followed by four years in a psychiatric institution and four-and-a-half years under conditional supervision in the community. She completed her sentence and she was freed.

Jeremy Steinke

Steinke admitted to the murder of the parents in conversation with an undercover police officer while in custody. In a show of solidarity Jasmine murdered her brother per the conversation. He was found guilty by a jury on three counts of first-degree murder for the killings of the three Richardson victims. Steinke was sentenced to three life sentences, one for each first-degree murder count. Steinke will be eligible for parole after serving twenty-five years in prison.

Kacy Lancaster

Kacy helped the two escape after the murders. Charges against Kacy Lancaster was dropped. Kacy pleaded guilty to an obstruction charge in court. She received one year house arrest as part of the plea bargain and was ordered to refrain from drugs and alcohol.
