Tuesday open thread: Here we go
At 3pm EDT / 12pm Best Coast Time, career criminal and one-time "president" Donald John Trump is due to be arraigned in a Miami federal courthouse on charges of violating the Espionage Act.
His followers have made dark rumblings about being "locked and loaded". And yet, this was the crowd yesterday:
The thing about being part of a paranoid end-times cult is that, well, you're paranoid. No one turned up to Trump's arraignment in New York City due to fears of being infiltrated by the Feds. For all their braying about being ready to lay down their lives, we see precious little evidence of that. They're not even willing to go to prison, or get their heads cracked open by police.
Much has been made of Trump fluffer Aileen Cannon being in charge of the trial. However, she won't be in charge of the arraignment. Is this a sign that she'll be eased out of the larger trial? Perhaps. But she won't be able to repeat her antics from the documents appeal in this case. She will be on a very short leash. Special prosecutor Jack Smith is not Robert J. Mueller III. Mr. Smith is a legal assassin, and you won't even know you're dead until you're buried six feet under. The Eleventh Circuit has already smacked Judge Cannon down twice, with visible scorn and derision. Any appeal to it should be met with favor.
The fact is that 99% of those who cosplay revolution, on both left and right, are cowards who just want to talk a big game, but not give up any of the comforts of modern civilization. They are not Ukrainians. That remaining 1% is the worrying part; it is a good bet that someone will go lone wolf. But the same thing will happen now that happened when Trump called for the country to be shut down over his charges in New York: nothing. These are not BLM protestors. They are cowards.
So make that extra pot of coffee. The news should be flying fast and hard. (And, the whole process may be delayed because, as of this writing, Trump has been unable to secure legal representation from an attorney licensed to practice law in Florida. No one wants the stench of his treason.)
