Thursday open thread: Oh, the places we shall go
Well, howdy there, Barflies.
Of course, the news yesterday was all aflutter with rumors of today being the day. Now, I don't really expect to wake up to indictments, especially since all the federal grand juries investigating Donald Trump are still hearing from witnesses, and subpoenas are still going out. (HI STEVE BANNON!) But I'm prepared to be pleasantly surprised when I rouse myself from slumber to hear breaking news that he is going to have to do the perp walk.
Whether it happens today or next week or next month, it's now a certainty that Trump will be brought to account for his crimes. Those of us on this blog and others like us have been accused of being shills and naifs for thinking anyone with Trump's wealth would ever suffer consequences for his crimes. You know the drill: Amerikkka is broken, rich white men have their own justice system, and the Department of Justice under Merrick Garland will just sweep everything under the rug. And the goal-posts are already moving. "Sure, he'll be indicted. But in Florida! That proves Garland wants him to get off!" Hogwash. These are people who would complain about the quality of bottled water on an all-expenses paid cruise on a private yacht. Being contrarian is their reason for existence.
Personally, the day he gets indicted I'll go buy a more-expensive-than-usual bottle of single malt and drink it while basking in Schadenfreude. And if he's convicted? Time to open the piggy bank and get an appropriate tipple for the occasion.
Saddle up, pardners. We're winning, and we have a world to save.
