Wednesday Open Thread: Ridin' With Biden/Harris!

Biden/Harris 2024.

Despite months of desperate media coverage trying to create drama where none existed, Uncle Joe answered the call yesterday providing us with this gorgeous three-minute video announcing his intent to run for re-election.

With the uber efficient Vice-President Kamala Harris at his side, Joe Biden is well-poised to be the Democratic nominee. With the vanity campaigns of Marianne Williamson and RFK, Jr. not being serious and Bernie Sanders taking himself out of the running, the path is clear for Uncle Joe to head into November of 2024 with the wind at his sails. In particular, is his brilliant campaign theme of three simple words: finish the job.

Campaign themes can be tricky. They have to appeal to the voters' emotions. As a challenger, you have to separate yourself from the incumbent. You have to give them a reason to vote against the current occupant of the Oval Office. On the flip side, as the incumbent you have to give a notorious fickle electorate with a reason to vote for you again. What have you done lately? Are we better off than we were four years ago? What have you done to earn another four years?

The phrase "finish the job" checks off all those boxes. What job, you ask? The job that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were elected to do. To dig America out of the massive hole that Donald Trump and Republicans left for us. To build up and build out the middle class. To center diplomacy at the heart of our foreign policy. To reengage our allies across the globe. To help small businesses recover from the pandemic. And to restore the norms and accountability across all levels of government that had been so haphazardly tossed aside by the Trump Administration.

Why does it need finishing? Because there is more work to do. We all saw how productive the 192nd Congress was with Democrats controlling the House, Senate, and White House. We've all seen how unproductive it is with Republicans in control of the House. There is so much more than Democrats will do when given the reigns of governments. Legislation will be passed that works to address critical issues that Republicans ignore such as climate change, gun violence, voting rights, and women's health. This clarion call is pitch perfect as it allows for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to not only advocate for their own re-election but to push hard to flip the House and maintain control of the Senate. This current do-nothing Congress under Kevin McCarthy's leadership has once again shown the country that Republicans cannot and should not control government at any level, especially the House of Representatives.

Finish the job.

Trust me, it'll grow on you. Once you hear the heavy hitters like Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Gavin Newsom, Cory Booker, Stacey Abrams, Gretchen Whitmer, and Chuck Schumer start to say it, it'll all sink in. Because like what happened in 2016, we can't allow whichever heinous monster the Republicans nominate in 2024 to derail our progress. The Supreme Court is *again* on the ballot. Climate change is *again* on the ballot. Voting rights are *again* on the ballot. A woman's right to choose is *again* on the ballot. There is a lot of work to be done on all these issues that we care about. But the only way that work gets done is with us working together to reelect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2024.

Now let's get to work.
