Weekend self-care open thread, part II: Thank you, Stacey!!

Victory has many parents, and defeat is an orphan.

But if our victory yesterday has a supreme parent, it's not Joe Biden. It is Stacey Abrams.

Her tireless work in Georgia to deliver Democrats the majority in the Senate bore fruit yesterday, as President Biden's American Rescue Plan passed on a 50-49, party line vote. And votes forty-nine and fifty? The senators from Georgia, Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock, for whom Stacey moved heaven and earth to help elect, against all odds and all political reason.

It's facile to say "vote like Black women", as Candace Owens prowls around those purviews. But to "vote like a Black woman" means to be like Stacey Abrams: cognizant of this country's historical failures, aware of the impediments placed before them, but still not giving up faith in this fragile experiment, and working to make it a Republic for all, even if the Founders didn't envision it.

If I ever have the honor to meet Ms. Stacey, she'll put a dent in my bank account, as I wouldn't allow her to even think of paying for anything during our time together.

Be like Stacey Abrams. You can't go wrong that way.
