Monday open thread: Look to the log in your eye, Father

Now, my rupture with Holy Mother Church occurred at around age 14, when I no longer had to schlep to Sunday Mass. What started out as relief at being able to sleep in turned into a philosophical and moral rejection of any organization which demanded blind obedience of its members. Father Kosco is the exemplar of a petty authoritarian casting those he believes are irredeemable sinners into the fires of Gehenna.

Father Kosco is a representative of an organization which has hidden the sexual, physical, and mental abuse of children for decades. Father Kosco is a representative of an organization which shunts women to the side of religious life. Father Kosco is a representative of an organization with medieval views on sexuality and contraception which are not supported by Scripture. Father Kosco is a representative of everything which is wrong with an institution which has driven millions of us away from it, some to other churches, some to other faiths, some, like me, to a repudiation of organized religion. Father Kosco has a log in his eye, but spends all his time minutely and obsessively examining the motes in the eyes of others.

This is also further evidence that all churches should be taxed, with only expenditures spent on valid charity work exempted. If you want to preach politics from the pulpit, right or left, you shouldn't benefit from the tax code which specifically states you can't preach politics from the pulpit. This holdover in modern tax policy from medieval Europe no longer benefits the country and its people. 

I will put up Father Kosco's Christian charity up against Joe Biden's any day, and not come out the loser. Tend to your own soul first, Father, and make sure it is not wanting.
