Weekend self-care open thread: What are you doing to care for yourself?
Let's face it, folks: We're all flying blind.
9/11 was bad. The Great Recession was bad. But I think it's safe to say that both of those ruptures take a back seat to a modern plague, one for which our government was not only unprepared, but deliberately downplayed in order to maintain power. This may be the first national crisis we've faced in our history where we as citizens cannot count on Washington to lead.
This fact, obviously, leads to stress of an unimaginable scale. Some of us can depend on local and state leaders. But many of us can't, as they, too, are downplaying the pandemic's severity in fealty to their own lust for power, or to not upset the Orange Beast.
In these times, we need survival strategies. And I'm not talking solely about how early to get up in the morning to go to the store and hopefully score some toilet paper. I'm talking about how we can keep ourselves going and thriving, emotionally, psychologically, and physically. How, as I wrote on Friday, we can be beautiful to ourselves and to others. How we can strengthen those ties which are the real superstructure of any decent society.
This is a truly open thread. Share how you're coping with this situation. Share how you're having trouble coping. Share the good and the bad. We're all in this together.
Oh, and share any funny animal videos. Because that's one way to self-care.
As always, be good to yourselves and those around you.
