Weekend self-care open thread: Evening, April 4
This weekend we commemorate the slaying of the American Moses, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Between his assassination and Robert F. Kennedy's, the Sixties ended. The hope with which the decade had begun with John F. Kennedy's election would end in a world best exemplified by the Beatles' "Helter Skelter".
But as Dr. King said on the night before his death, he could see the Promised Land, even if he knew he wouldn't reach it. All of us must keep that dream alive, that vision of a just, fair, and equitable America. We cannot just slump down in despondency and quit. As long as we have life in us, we must continue to strive to build a better world for all of the Universe's children. It's what we owe to those who came before us and bled and died to give us something, and what we owe to those who will come after us.
Sleep, Dr. King. We will continue.
As always, dear friends, be ever kind, gentle, and joyful with yourselves and those around you.
