Weekend self-care open thread: 1970s variety specials with Mitzi Gaynor!
A staple of the 1970s was the variety show. These were one-off specials where stars of stage and screen would come into your homes on a cathode tube and delight you with musical numbers you weren't likely to see unless you lived in a big city with a thriving musical theater scene. (By the 1970s, movie musicals were on the way out.)
This week saw the passing of Mitzi Gaynor, the veritable triple threat of actor, dancer, and singer. And in the 1970s she was a fixture on variety shows.
So, with a recommendation from our own Anon33Guest, this weekend we shall celebrate her and a bygone era of American television. On with the show!
And this has NOTHING to do with Mitzi, but it just goes to show that the 70s were another world, man.
So, give to Jerry's Kids, easy on the Quaaludes, and have a groovy weekend.
As always, dear friends, be ever kind, gentle, and joyful with yourselves and those around you.
