True Crime Friday: Paul John Knowles, The Casanova Serial Killer
Paul John Knowles was an American Serial Killer. He is believed to have murdered at least 18-35 people during his reign of unprovoked terror. He was known for his good looks. The women that encountered him said he was a Robert Redford look alike. Good looking, charming and deadly. This man killed children, women and men. He had no built in demographic, just a lust for murder.
The Early Childhood of Paul John Knowles
Paul Knowles was born in the state of Florida on April 25, 1946. Knowles began his criminal career at the tender age of nine. His father felt that there was something evil about his son so he threw him out of the house. The State of Florida took control of Paul at the age of nine and he was placed with several foster families. He lived in several foster homes until the age of 19 when he was sent to prison.Knowles was serving his time in 1974 at a prison in Florida when he began corresponding to a woman in California named Angela Covic. The two would even become engaged. She paid for his legal fees and soon he was released. But when he flew to California to meet her said she sensed something evil about him and called off the wedding.
It is said that he decided at this time that he would go on a killing spree. Knowles claimed to have murdered three people on the streets of San Francisco that night. This claim was never verified by authorities. Knowles flew back to Florida and return to jail after picking a fight with a bartender. Not one to follow the rules he picked a lock on his door in the detention cell and escaped on July 26, 1974. He began his multi-state killing spree shortly after his escape.

Knowles tape recorded his confession to the murders. He then mailed them to his attorney before being captured by the police. The tapes were never made public and were ultimately destroyed after a flood at the Federal Courthouse in Georgia per the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
Lady Justice
Knowles once again tried an escape by taking one of the officer’s gun while being escorted to court. He killed Sheriff Earl Lee before GBI Agent Ronnie Angel was able to shoot him while he was attempting to escape. He was killed December 18, 1974.Reference
