Jack Smith's roundhouse

Oh, when we think we're too smart by half, what occurred yesterday occurs.

Donald Trump was supposed to already have been tried, and, hopefully, convicted. Instead he has spent the past two years dragging out his various prosecutions with filing after filing. And, it seemed, he had succeeded. He got the Supreme Court to grant him broad immunity for official acts. That led to Judge Aileen Cannon dismissing the documents case in Florida.

However, karma is a harsh mistress, and you can deny her only so much before your road runs out.

Because of the Supreme Court ruling, Special Counsel Jack Smith had to re-indict Trump on the insurrection charges. And because of that ruling, Judge Tanya Chutkan requested that he file a brief detailing how the charges didn't fall under the Court's ruling. And because Trump delayed the proceedings so much, trying to run out the clock and get back into the White House, yesterday, over Trump's objections, Judge Chutkan released Mr. Smith's 165-page brief.

Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it.

You can read the filing in its entirety here. For purposes of this post, I will be sharing tweets from Kyle Cheney, who does the best job of encapsulating the findings.

For example, Trump sycophant and former RNC chair Ronna McDaniel had this to say of an ask Trump made:
Oof. We all know how glued to Trump McDaniel was for years. No honor among thieves.

Then this:
This is redolent of mobsters trying to not be caught by wiretaps. Of course, it didn't matter. Because they're morons:
And yes: Trump tried to get his vice president killed. Or at least didn't care what happened to him.
Again, no honor among criminals. Poor yellow-toothed Rudy.
And so forth and so on.

Do read the document for yourself. After I finish writing this I'm going to dive into it.

Donald Trump thought he was being too clever by half by waging a scorched earth war against Jack Smith. And, Jack Smith did not release this just before the election to scupper Trump's chances. This brief was released by Judge Chutkan. And she only did so because of Trump's legal strategy. He brought this upon himself. Instead of taking his chances with a jury, he pursued a police of delay and distract. And now, this is the result: a bombshell report one month before Election Day, and in the middle of early voting. Those whom the gods wish to destroy they make mad first.

Trump's life of legal chicanery has come back to bite him in the ass. He engineered his own October Surprise against himself. He has no one else to blame. Karma, again, is a harsh mistress, and will be held at bay for only so long.

Enjoy, Donny. Ya played yaself.
