Weekend self-care open thread: In memoriam, Tina Turner
The inestimable, indescribable Tina Turner passed away this week.
Tina was a force of nature. She was indefatigable. She went through so many tragedies and so many triumphs. Just when it seemed she would stay down, she got back up. And she made no apologies. When she was interviewed by Mike Wallace, he asked her if she think she deserved the trappings of success—the big house, the wealth, the fame. She replied quite simply: "I deserve more." (Really, Mike, what was up with that?)
Between Private Dancer and Mad Max Beyond Thumderdome, she was one of my icons growing up. Her like is rare, a flower to be appreciated while it blooms, and then remembered fondly and with admiration when it returns to the dust to which we shall all return. For this long weekend's self-care, we honor a legend.
Jam on, Ms. Tina. Jam on.
As always dear friends, be ever kind to yourselves and those around you. You are all heroes.
