Hump Day open thread: Celebrate justice

Yesterday the jury in he E. Jean Carroll civil rape trial found Donald Trump guilty of sexual assault and defamation. The jury awarded her $5 million.

For some, that wasn't enough. The "what's Merrick Garland doing" takes came. The "he'll just tie it up in appeals" takes came.

Are we so damaged by these seven years that we can't celebrate good news? We did the day after Joe Biden was declared the president-elect. But more often than not too many of us treat any good news as just one shoe, with another, worse shoe to drop.

This is no way to go through life. This is not a good human existence. Life is full of ups and downs. Of victories and defeats. When you suffer a defeat, learn from it, and get back up. And when you win a victory, savor it, for you have earned it. Don't feel guilty about it. And for women who have suffered rape/abuse, where reporting and conviction rates are abysmal, this is very good news. Finally, someone received a measure of closure.

For the first time in his miserable life, Trump has been meted justice. Is it enough? No. But it's a down payment. The dam has cracked. We even saw murmurings among some Republicans that Trump is damaged goods, and should not be the GOP nominee. Something has shifted.

I, for one, will dance.

This is your open thread.
