The time to cavil is long gone

I began writing this article a couple of days ago. It centered around Comcast employees signing an open letter to their corporate bosses urging them to walk the walk around LGBTQIA+ rights.

Then Uvalde happened.

And then I saw this yesterday:

Now, I've been scarce on the Twitter streets, because fuck Twitter. But I had to respond:

And then, Twitter in its wisdom, decided to to this:

Oh. Poor Maggie. Being roasted for a possibly really horrible piece of sarcasm after nineteen children were slaughtered in Texas, being fixated on her meal-ticket. She has to be protected at all costs.

About the likes of Comcast I was going to write that the time to cavil had passed. It was time to take a side. But now with this new irruption of tone deafness from our media, I will say this about them: The time to cavil is gone. The time to "both sides" is done. You have to choose. Will you go all in on the side of democracy, or cavil and coddle the people who would gladly see you strung up from lampposts?

I have nothing but disdain and disgust for the likes of Haberman and her ilk. They trade freedom for access. From what I'm told, she and Trump hate each other. But they recognize a symbiotic relationship, and feed on each other. This is nothing but reprehensible. And it's not limited to Haberman. The four years of the Trump regime was a cavalcade of journalistic insider trading. The regime leaked like a sieve, and journalists and officials sucked at the never-ending teat.

There is no neutrality. You cannot say "a pox on both your houses" and be morally honest or consistent. One house is trying to save this democracy, and the other house is intent on burning it down. And oh-so-cute tweets like Haberman's are no longer germane. There is no room for sarcasm. There is no room for aloof irony. We are in a war, and woe betide you if you decide to keep apart. Whichever side wins will turn on you just as if you were the enemy.

Nineteen children lie dead, and Haberman and her like still play the political game. The country is on the brink of a civil war, and they think "How interesting" from their Westside lofts.

For those of us on the receiving end, this is not a game. This is not an intellectual exercise. The political press may as well be a mouthpiece for the fascists, because by not taking a side they effectively are.

Fuck you, Haberman. And fuck your colleagues. When I meet you and yours in the camps, I'll make sure you go first.
