Tuesday Treason: The Kraken and Eric Trump Edition

Yesterday was a bad day to be a GOP treason weasel.

First, there was the news that America's Landscaper Rudy Giuliani and his cracked out, sorry, Kraken lawyers were issued subpoenas by the January 6th Commission. From CNN:

In its letters to Giuliani and Powell, the committee references witness testimony and public reporting to state that they "urged President Drumpf to direct the seizure of voting machines around the country after being told that the Department of Homeland Security had no lawful authority to do so."

CNN has previously reported that in December 2020, Giuliani asked former DHS official Ken Cuccinelli whether the department could seize voting machines in certain states to be reexamined for evidence of widespread voter fraud.

Cuccinelli, who CNN previously reported has spoken to the committee, said in October that he told Giuliani the department had no legal authority to seize voting machines or interfere with state-run elections. Cuccinelli also said that "no one at any level pushed us to do anything outside of our existing mission sets."

Drumpf in December briefly toyed with the idea that Powell could become a special counsel to him, making it possible for his administration to seize voting machines. Powell appears to have stepped away from being in Drumpf's closest circle in the immediate days leading up to January 6.

But wait, there's more!

Moments later, CNN also broke the news that Eric The Lesser Trump and human succubus Kimberly Guilfoyle had their phone records subpoenaed by the January 6th Commission. From lucky article number two:

The phone records obtained by the committee are part of a new round of call detail records subpoenaed from communication companies, multiple sources tell CNN. These records provide the committee with logs that show incoming and outgoing calls, including the date, time and length of calls. The records also show a log of text messages, but not the substance or content of the messages.

Still, the information can be a critical investigative tool for the committee in piecing together a road map of who was communicating before, during and after January 6.

Both Eric Drumpf and Guilfoyle played prominent roles in Drumpf's "Stop the Steal" efforts, including Guilfoyle fundraising off the lie that the election was stolen. Both spoke at the January 6 rally on the Ellipse that preceded the attack on the Capitol.

The records may also help the committee flesh out the text messages and phone records it has received from others, like former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, as well as fundraisers and rally organizers.

And we're off to the races!

There's no denying that the January 6th insurrection was a violent attempt to overthrow the American government. There's also no denying that many of those involved are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.

But this is exactly what happens when an entire political party attaches itself to a deranged demigod who for 50+ years avoided any and all accountability. Donald Trump didn't care about being reelected; he cared about being held responsible for a lifetime of crime. His four years in the White House gave him a blank check to continue criming, at a level that he never thought possible. His kids got to play diplomat and make hundreds of millions of dollars. His Cabinet officials got to abuse the time-honored trust of the American people for their own personal gain. And Trump himself used the Oval Office as a second Trump Foundation, using the perks of the office to enrich himself and his family all while ignoring historical precedents and shitting on the unwritten rules of common decency that had been attached to the office for its first 44 occupants.

Why so many people went all-in on this diminutive dimwit will be one of America's great mysteries. Was it because he provided them with access to power? Was it because they felt he was one of them who shared their views? Was it because he said the quiet parts out loud? Was it because he hated all the same people they did? Or was it something deeper and more sinister? Was it that they saw in Donald Trump the true heir to making America White, er great, again? Or was it a combination of some or all of the questions previously raised?

Whatever the reason(s), the chickens are coming home to roost. Those involved in the planning and execution of the January 6th insurrection are slowly but surely coming to justice. Between the January 6th Commission's Tuesday news and last week's DOJ Oathkeeper indictments, it is clear now that the bigger fish are starting to fry. It's also clear that neither investigation is leaking its work, proving that the pessimistic Blue Checkmarks screaming DO SOMETHING!!! clearly have zero behind-the-scenes sources. The fact that we now, for the first time, have a member of the Trump family caught up in the investigation shows that we are moving higher and higher up the insurrection food chain. We may not be at TFG yet, but we are getting closer and closer each passing day.

These are not bright people. But worse than that, they are desperate. Like Donald Trump, they've never faced accountability. But unlike Trump, they have a life to live. They have a family that loves them. They even have the idea that they can somehow come out of all this unscathed. When faced with significant jail time, they will flip faster than an IHOP pancake. Because Donald Trump isn't loyal. He'd throw all of them, sans Ivanka, over to the feds at the drop of a hat. They know this. They are not going down on SS Trump when the captain is already in the lifeboat headed to shore. For four years, they got away with anything they wanted. But with the Democrats back in charge, all that is about to change. We now have the true law and order party at the helm of the American government.

And it won't let January 6th go unpunished.

*Update*

As I got into my fluffy slippers to get ready for bed, New York State Attorney General Tish James dropped this doozy at the 11 PM hour:

Well played, Tish. Well played, indeed.
