Monday open thread: Well, that's more like it, 2022

As you all know, the great tzaddik, Betty White of blessed memory, departed our earthly plane on New Year's Eve. We were all saddened by her passing. When I returned to work yesterday, one of my colleagues related this that she'd heard bandied about: Betty passing on the 31st was her last gift to us. She took with her a difficult year so that we could begin 2022 fresh.

Well, look at 2022's first gift. The barely-sentient pile of walking pus named Marjorie Taylor Greene—who claims to be a sitting member of Congress, although she does nothing to earn her paycheck—was permanently suspended by Twitter for continuing to spread Covid disinformation.

To say this is a welcome development would be an understatement. Now, of course, Twitter should ban all the other accounts who likewise spread disinformation. But Mad Marge being gone is a good start.

Of course, her partner in idiocy, Honey Boba Lauren Boebert, had a few things to say:
When pressed on the ludicrousness of her statement threatening retaliation against a private company—a big no-no—she replied with this gem:
My friends, I'm confident that 2022 will be a far better year for democracy and decency than the previous five years. We'll see all these traitors face justice. We'll see the Democratic agenda advance. And although the midterms will be tight, the Trumpist right will do everything it can to remind middling voters of their toxicity. We have a lot of work to do, but it's work which we can do, and which will achieve positive results. Why? Because this is what the likes of Boebert and Greene are focusing on. The Kochs and Mercers can throw around all the money they want, but with such poor clay with which to work, there's only so much they can do.

Again everyone: May you have the happiest of years in 2022. Roll up your sleeves. We've got stuff to do.
