Tuesday open thread: The beginning of the unraveling of Steve Bannon's life
At 7:30 pm ET tonight, the January 6th Commission will vote to issue a criminal referral to the Department of Justice in the matter of one Steve Bannon. His malfeasance? Refusing to honor a subpoena to appear in front of the commission to give testimony. The referral will then go before the entire House before being officially presented to Justice.
Steve Bannon is a nonentity. He's a legend in his own mind with 20,000 shock troops at the ready to take over the country. For some reason he's holding onto his loyalty to an Orange Julius who will not show the same loyalty to him. Yes, Donald Trump pardoned Bannon. But that was out of self-interest. And it was out of self-interest that he instructed Bannon to not testify or provide documents to the committee. He doesn't care that Bannon will most likely end up in prison now, the same prison from which he thought he'd been rescued.
Bannon fell victim to one of the two classic blunders. The most well-known is to never fight a land war in Asia. Lesser known, but as important, is to never enter into a deal with Donald Trump where prison is involved. He's about to learn that his "shock troops" are not going to save him.
