Weekend self-care open thread: Some of my favorite movie themes

Richard Wagner had the idea of the Gesantkunstwerk, or "total work of art", where all the elements of a production—in his case opera—contributed to a greater whole.

Film is such a medium. It is not just the actors. It is not just the screenwriter. It is not just the director. It is the entire panoply of elements which go into producing a film. Costuming. Lighting. Cinematography. And music.

When film first arose, it was silent. But even then, impresarios knew that putting an audience into a theater to watch a silent film was a nonstarter. So all theaters provided musical accompaniment to the screenings. And with that, music became an essential component of any film. It foreshadowed. It accentuated. It underscored.

I am a sucker for a good film score. And I am doubly a sucker for a great main theme. So, for this weekend's self-care, I'm going to share a few of my favorites. Please do share yours in the comments.
