True Crime Friday: Ted Kaczynski, the Unabomber
Theodore John Kaczynski was born May 22, 1942. He was a Harvard-educated professor and mathematician, domestic terrorist and serial killer. He murdered three people while injuring twenty three other between the years of 1978-1995. He went on a mail bombing campaign against people he believed to be advancing modern technology and the destruction of the natural environment. His manifesto was called Industrial Society and Its Future which opposed all forms of technology, rejected leftism and fascists. Kaczynski decided to move to a remote cabin in the woods of Lincoln, Nebraska to carry out his dastardly deeds. The cabin had no electricity, running water and no modern technology which he despised.
While living in a remote part of Montana, he learned survival skills and became self sufficient in the wilderness. With industry buying off remote land and turning them into profit centers Kaczynski decided that he had to fight the destruction of nature. He began to plot his terrorist plan of revenge. The investigation was one of the longest in the history at that time of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). The moniker of the Unabomber derived from University and Airline Bomber verbiage. The media dubbed the killer as the Unabomber. Kaczynski was brought down by his brother David when they saw his hand writing and manifesto on the news and decided to turn him into the authorities.
