How'd you celebrate your last birthday?
If you were President Joe Biden, you were working round-the-clock to help secure a deal to free 50 hostages from international terrorists.

The U.S. has brokered a deal between Israel and Hamas to free dozens of hostages held in Gaza in exchange for a four or five day pause in fighting, according to three current U.S. officials and a former U.S. official with knowledge of the talks.
The people said an announcement could come from the relevant parties as soon as Tuesday — though all stressed that arrangements can always fall apart at the last moment.
Elements of the deal, including the release of some 50 hostages by Hamas, could begin within hours, they said. Two of the U.S. officials added that about 150 Palestinian prisoners will also be released from Israel as part of the arrangement.
“We’re the closest we’ve been,” said one of the U.S. officials, who like others was granted anonymity to detail a sensitive development before it was announced.
This is why I'm a lifelong Democrat. Because while Republicans bitch and moan about the cost of turkeys, Joe Biden is working on his goddamn birthday to secure the release of 50 hostages from a terrorist organization.
We can, and often do, point out the differences between the two parties. But at the heart of it all is the fact that Democrats alone care for their fellow human being, no matter how different. Joe Biden has shown himself to be one of the most empathetic presidents we've ever had. He genuinely cares about other people. It's a trait that Republicans have tried to weaponize by viciously attacking his son, who fought the demons of addiction. They know that "Uncle Joe" is a genuine human being and they know that his empathy resonates with the 2/3 of America that isn't hopelessly tied to the cult of criminality that surrounds Donald Trump. Deep down inside, they know that more Americans relate to Joe Biden than will ever relate to Tangerine Mussolini.
Joe Biden doesn't care about polls. He doesn't care about social media. He doesn't care about Columbia grad students who still can't point out Palestine on a world map. He cares about results. He cares about doing the right thing. He cares about doing the job that 81 million Americans elected him to do.
A lot will happen over the next 11 months. But one thing that won't happen will be Joe Biden losing his empathy and compassion for the work. It's who he is and who he will continue to be. It's why I will proudly vote for him a second time and do everything in my power to ensure that he and Kamala Harris are reelected and that he has both legislative branches of government to work with him. Because we saw what he did with his razor-thin majority for his first two years. Joe Biden has earned a second term and he has earned the opportunity to again legislate with Congress on his side. Democrats are the only ones who care about everyday Americans and they are the only ones willing to work tirelessly on their behalf.
And they're definitely the only ones doing so on their 81st birthday.
