Weekend self-care open thread: Hanukkah! And a fundraiser!

The blessed Festival of Lights, Hanukkah, begins this Sunday at sundown.

The Jewish holiday originates from the fight for freedom carried out by Jews led by the Maccabees against the Greek Seleucid Empire. The Seleucid king, Antiochus IV Epiphanes, wanted to break Judaism and Hellenize Jews. To that end, he defiled the Second Temple, placing statues of Greek gods in it, and forbidding Jewish religious practices, including circumcision.

After years of struggle, the Jews expelled their Greek oppressors, and reestablished an independent Jewish kingdom for the first time in four centuries.

The holiday is celebrated the most here in the United States, as a way for Jews to have their own winter holiday along with Christmas.

For our weekend self-care, we will join our Jewish brothers and sisters in celebrating this festive time.

(And yes, of course, it starts with this.)

We're also going to have fundraisers for the next two weekend of the festive season. As always, I and Trevor do this out of love for you all. But, we like bourbon and pot. So, if you can, the link to donate is down below. And you'll see my government name!

As always, dear friends, be ever kind to yourselves and those around you.
