Weekend self-care open thread: Happy music for Trump's imminent downfall

Well. I try to keep our weekend self-care separate from the turmoil of the week. But I think this weekend I shall make an exception.

It's been a no-good, very bad, horrible week for Donald Trump. First, New York Attorney General Tish James, won a court case compelling Trump and his children Don Jr and Ivanka to give depositions in her civil case against the "Trump Organization", which sounds like a mob name. Then yesterday, a judge in Washington, DC curb-stomped an attempt by Trump to quash civil litigation aimed at him over his actions fomenting the insurrection. But, and this is the biggie: the National Archives confirmed that Trump pilfered classified documents on his way out of the White House and stashed them at his gaudy pile in Florida. Holding Trump accountable in court for his actions surrounding January 6, 2021 require all t's to be crossed and i's to be dotted; the theft of classified materials is, well, much more of a slam-dunk case.

Now, more than a few people on the Twitter machine are doing their usual. "This changes nothing." "He won't be held accountable." "He'll get away with it." In part, I can understand their lack of faith in consequences being meted out. After all, rich people often do get away with the most heinous of crimes.

Trump isn't a normal case. His four years in office have been a crime cavalcade, on top of his life of malfeasance. The knives are out. Democrats want justice. And non-Trump Republicans want the stench of him gone. (Good luck, since all Republicans fell into line once he was the nominee. With few exceptions like Joe Walsh and Liz Cheney, most didn't drape themselves in honor.) My beloved manager comes to me for assurance that Trump will receive what's coming to him. And I always respond: Yes, he will. Trump is a black swan in American history. And people on both sides of the ideological aisle want to make sure his like never again arises.

So, for this weekend: Celebrate how far we've come. We have far to go, but the path is clear. I'm going to play some music that makes me happy. Join in in the comments.

As always, be ever kind to yourselves and those around you. And live in joy.
